Deze functie wordt sinds februari 2010 vervuld door László Andor.
Deze Eurocommissaris is verantwoordelijk voor het Directoraat-Generaal Werkgelegenheid en sociale zaken en heeft als taak:
-
-het stimuleren van maatregelen die leiden tot meer en betere werkgelegenheid
-
-het creëren van gelijke kansen voor iedereen op de arbeidsmarkt
-
-het bestrijden van discriminatie en sociale uitsluiting, en het bevorderen van gelijke kansen voor mannen en vrouwen
-
-het coördineren van de sociale zekerheid in de lidstaten, daarbij rekening houdend met de gevolgen van de 'vergrijzing' (toename van het aantal mensen ouder dan 65 jaar) voor pensioenen en gezondheidszorg
