Europese Commissie start campagne voor bevorderen deelname meisjes en vrouwen in exacte wetenschappen (en) - Montesquieu Instituut

The European Commission is launching the 'Women in Research and Innovation' campaign to encourage girls to develop an interest in science and engage more young women in scientific research careers.

Women still remain largely under-represented in the science, technology and research fields in Europe, which constitutes an enormous waste of talent. The new Commission campaign reflects the EU's commitment to promote gender equality and gender dimension in research and innovation. It aims to challenge stereotypes around science and show girls that science can be a great opportunity for their future. The campaign will also underline the importance of science and research in finding concrete solutions to world problems, such as food and energy security, environment, healthy ageing among others.

The launch event , which takes place at the European Parliament in Brussels on the 21st June, will include a conference at 14.30 with Commission Geoghegan-Quinn, pupils and inspirational role models. From 12.00 to 18.00 there will be fun, science-themed activities for young boys and girls taking place on the Esplanade of the European Parliament. Activities will include workshops, the shooting of a flashmob video clip and meetings with young scientists who will share their passion for science with students and answer their questions.
