The Cypriot Presidency will be hosting a workshop that will focus on the assistance of volunteers in Civil Protection and Humanitarian Interventions. Civil Protection and Humanitarian experts will be invited to attend the workshop and renowned speakers will be asked to give a presentation. The Minister of Interior, Ms Eleni Mavrou and the Commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response, K. Georgieva will also be present.

Van 1 juli tot en met 31 december 2012 vervulde Cyprus het voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie. Het Cypriotisch voorzitterschap werkte nauw samen met de vorige twee voorzitterschappen: Polen en Denemarken. Deze drie landen vormden samen een 'trojka' (of trio) van opeenvolgend voorzittende landen. Ze hadden samen een programma voor de hele periode opgesteld.
