The objective of the meeting is to assess the quality of the co-operation between the SIRENE bureaux, to adopt necessary technical or organisational measures in case of any difficulties and to adjust procedures where required.Apart from the Heads of SIRENE, representatives from E.C., the General Secretariat of Council, CEPOL and others are also invited to the meetings.

Van 1 juli tot en met 31 december 2012 vervulde Cyprus het voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie. Het Cypriotisch voorzitterschap werkte nauw samen met de vorige twee voorzitterschappen: Polen en Denemarken. Deze drie landen vormden samen een 'trojka' (of trio) van opeenvolgend voorzittende landen. Ze hadden samen een programma voor de hele periode opgesteld.
