OPEN DAYS 2011 - European Week of Regions and Cities - Hoofdinhoud
From 10th to 13th October 2011, politicians, officials, experts and researchers will come from all around Europe to discuss, debate, and help shape the future of EU Cohesion Policy. Now, nine years running, OPEN DAYS is more than just an annual event for cities and regions to showcase good practices in regional development. It is a veritable forum where people from all levels of government and civil society meet.
OPEN DAYS 2011 will comprise of over 100 sessions and networking opportunities for over 6,000 participants expected in Brussels. The event is organised by the European Commission's DG Regional Policy and the Committee of the Regions (CoR) in partnership with 206 regions and cities from all over Europe, and further afield, as well as national and regional policy-makers, practitioners and representatives of business, civil society and academia. About 300 journalists are also expected to register.
Debates will focus on three main themes:
-
-Europe 2020: How do Cohesion Policy and the Structural Funds contribute to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth?
-
-Better delivery: How can the EU improve the delivery of Cohesion Policy now and beyond 2013?
-
-Geography matters: What future for territorial cooperation and what lessons can be learnt from third countries?
All participants are also invited to contribute to a set of seminars forming the ‘OPEN DAYS University’. Here, a selected number of renowned academics from different European countries specialised in urban and regional studies will hold 10 joint lectures and seminars where the findings of their recent research will be discussed, focusing on the thematic priorities of OPEN DAYS 2011.
Watch the Opening Session broadcast LIVE from the European Parliament at 3pm on 10 October here: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/wps-europarl-internet/frd/live/live-video?language=en
