The European Diplomatic Programme is a training course aimed at junior diplomats of all member statesMinistries of Foreign Affairs, as well as Commission and Council Secretariat officials. Each participant is granted the opportunity to enlarge and to deepen his or her competence with regard to EU affairs through participation in programmes with leading academic experts and national and EU personnel.

Van 1 juli tot en met 31 december 2012 vervulde Cyprus het voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie. Het Cypriotisch voorzitterschap werkte nauw samen met de vorige twee voorzitterschappen: Polen en Denemarken. Deze drie landen vormden samen een 'trojka' (of trio) van opeenvolgend voorzittende landen. Ze hadden samen een programma voor de hele periode opgesteld.
