Promoting European films and culture, stimulating public debate about European values: these are the main aims of the LUX Prize, the European Parliament's film award. This year's three finalists were unveiled in Rome on 24 July. For the first time ever, they will be screened in all member states before the winner is picked in November.

A selection panel, consisting of film experts, picked the three finalists for this year's LUX Prize from ten preselected entries. The three films, subtitled in the EU's official 23 languages, will be shown in all 27 EU member states in October and November during the LUX Film Days. This will be the first time this has happened since the LUX Prize was established in 2007.

The European Parliament's film prize aims to direct more attention to European cinema and stimulate debate about European values and topical social issues. It is awarded annually based on votes by MEPs.

In addition to providing distributors with subtitles in the 23 official EU languages for the winning film and versions for the visually and hearing impaired, the LUX Prize also offers an incentive for the film's promotion throughout the EU.
