The informal meeting for Chief Veterinary Officers (CVOs) gathers CVOs from the EU Member States and candidate countries. The purpose is to have debates on current veterinary issues like the current situation on Schmallenberg virus in the EU and on follow up on the annual general session of The World Organisatin for Animal Health (OIE). Besides that the presidency has arranged visits to Danish food producers. The CVOs will visit two fish farms and a slaughter house.

Van 1 januari tot en met 30 juni 2012 vervulde Denemarken het voorzitterschap van de Europese Unie. Het Deens voorzitterschap werkte nauw samen met de Poolse en Cypriotische voorzitterschappen, die voor en respectievelijk na Denemarken het voorzitterschap bekleden. Deze drie landen vormen samen een 'trojka' (of trio) van voorzittende landen. Ze hebben samen een beleidsprogramma voor de hele periode opgesteld.
